Trauma-Informed Educator Certificate
The Trauma-Informed Educator Certificate directly addresses the increasing need for trauma-informed training among educators, school psychologists, and other educational professionals.
Overview
About the Program
The Trauma-Informed Educator Certificate directly addresses the increasing need for trauma-informed training among educators, school psychologists, and other educational professionals. Schools nationwide are facing rising numbers of students impacted by adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), which research has shown to negatively affect behavior, emotional regulation, and academic success (National Child Traumatic Stress Network, 2022; Smith & Brown, 2024). In response, state and federal education policies are increasingly requiring school personnel to receive formal training in trauma-informed care.
The University of Findlay’s Trauma-Informed Educator Certificate provides a structured, research-backed solution by integrating coursework in behavior management, neurobiology of learning, and crisis response. The selected courses were chosen to ensure that participants develop a comprehensive skill set aligned with best practices in trauma-informed education. By providing educators with the tools needed to identify, understand, and respond effectively to trauma in the classroom, this certificate program helps close the training gap identified by educational policymakers and practitioners.
